Using Formative Assessment in a Standards-Based Classroom (Online via Elluminate).  Click to Register!

This online course was developed in collaboration with the ETCs, Coastal Plains RESA, and the Assessment Department at DOE. There are no face-to-face sessions but there are four (4) required online Elluminate sessions beginning at 8p:

To participate in the Elluminate sessions, you will need a computer with Internet access, an internal or external  microphone and speakers.

Three modules are presented--earning a participant 3 PLUs.Cost: $150. The following is a course overview:


Course Objectives:

Class Keys (Proficient):

A) I 1.4 - Analyzes electronic assessment data to adapt learning groups prior to instruction

B) I 1.4 (Exemplary) - Uses technology tools for diagnostic and formative assessments to determine student understanding and adapt grouping accordingly.

School Keys (Fully Operational):

C) A 2.2 Use a variety of formative assessment tasks and tools to monitor student progress

D) A 2.2 Use formative assessment to provide effective and timely feedback

ETC Progress Monitoring Tool:

#3 TETLPT - Teacher frequently measures student understanding during the instructional period. Teacher utilizes student responses to adjust instruction during the class period (e.g., student response systems, blogs, online quizzes [Quia, BrainPop]).

Assessment/Deliverables:

A) Module One: Evaluate your classroom practice, or the practice of educators in your building or district, using a Human Histogram evaluation form.

B) Module Two: Re-write two selected response test questions previously used in the classroom and turn them into test items that require higher order thinking.

C) Module Three: Create and administer an assessment from the OAS (On-line Assessment System). Choose one of the reports available in the OAS to run after administering this assessment; reflect on what instructional adjustments need to occur based on these results in the course Journal.

Activities:

A) Participate in Wikis, Discussion Boards, and Journal reflections.

B) Read articles.

C) View presentations and movies.

D) Review various technology resources.
